WHICH TYPE OF BRACES DO I NEED?

As we mentioned before, one set of braces does not fit all, and with the advancements made in orthodontics, the option is no longer just metal braces. Here are the options for braces at Smiles 4 Texas and why many of our patients choose or are encouraged to choose a certain type:

Traditional Metal Braces

These types of braces have been around the longest and are the groundwork for where we are today with braces. Metal braces are the least expensive type of braces, but are also the strongest and are typically used for patients with severe dental issues. 

Ceramic Braces

Patients prefer these type of braces because they match the color of their teeth. These braces do not stand out nearly as much as traditional metal braces. These are, however, slightly more expensive than metal braces, but are less expensive than clear braces (Invisalign). Ceramic braces are strong, though not as strong as their counterpart – metal braces, and are used for cases that are relatively severe, though extreme problems are typically left to traditional metal braces.

Invisalign

Clear braces, known as Invisalign, have been the major breakthrough in orthodontics because of the freedom they allow patients. Invisalign are removable braces that help patients who suffer from gapped, misaligned or crooked teeth, though typically not in severe cases. Our patients often choose Invisalign braces because they are clear. These type of braces are the least recognizable and allow for patients to continue their daily life without experiencing a major change to their appearance. Invisalign braces can also be removed during the day allowing patients to brush their teeth or eat without braces. Although they are removable, these clear braces must remain on the teeth for no less than 22 hours per day.
